we

we drove

on a night

as dark as an undiscovered

cavern

over hills

&

under bridges

we glided

and sang duets

about paper girls

and

secrets in our

coffee

the November air

streamed through

the windows

&

reminded us to stay

alive.

we stopped

on a hilltop

at the highest perch

of our small city

staring at the

blinking light below

(and the)

twinkling ones above,

trying to see

what building was

what & which

circle in the sky

was actually

a satellite

we giggled at the cars

that raced by

until the cop told us

to be careful

and waited till

we were on our way

back

into the night
